Overview
Dr. Oppel's electrode is not heated by itself. Instead, the electrode lets the cellular tissue produce Joule heat, performing haemostasis, cutting and coagulation with minimal collateral thermal damage.
4 MHz radiofrequency makes precise cutting and deep coagulation possible even in water and blood. Coagulation depth is determined by the electrode — 5 mm, 3 mm or 2 mm — so the surgeon selects the effect rather than compensating with power.
Radiofrequency coagulation produces coagulation necrosis to a depth of 5 mm: the RF current flows from the electrode through the tissue to the patient plate, generating Joule heat in the tissue itself. Cauterisation and cryosurgery cannot achieve this because they offer no deep coagulation, whereas RF coagulation achieves necrosis reliably.
Key features
High frequency RF (4 MHz)
Precise cutting and deep coagulation even in water and blood.
Depth control by electrodes
Coagulation depth determined by electrode: 5 mm, 3 mm or 2 mm.
Cold electrode principle
The electrode is not heated itself — tissue produces the Joule heat, limiting collateral damage.
Specialised electrodes
Dedicated electrode sets for each clinical application.
Radiofrequency coagulation
Coagulation necrosis to 5 mm depth, unattainable with cautery or cryosurgery.
Clinical indications
Oculoplastics, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology, ophthalmology, proctology, gynaecology, dentistry, general surgery and plastic surgery.
Why this device
Electrode-selected coagulation depth and cold-electrode operation give predictable results with less thermal damage than conventional electrosurgery or cautery.
